In order to compliantly declare product to Customs and Border Protection, retailers must execute several functions, all with short lead times. These include soliciting product detail well upstream of importation, and converting that product information into usable data to confirm classification and admissibility of merchandise into the U.S. market. A number of hurdles exist that may prevent this from happening. These include short lead times, uncooperative vendors, complex and diverse product mixtures, and competing internal priorities.
